New Orleans began the process of trying to rebuild the worst defense in the NFL last season. It was a good start, with a 17-13 win over Kansas City. Head coach Sean Payton was back on the sideline for the first time in a year.
The Saints gave up only 215 yards to the Chiefs on the night, which is a night and day difference to how it went last season. But this is only the preseason after all. Still, it had to be good for New Orleans fans to see some improvement right out of the gate.
For the Raiders, quarterback Matt Flynn appears like he will be the guy to start Week 1 for the team. He had a nice 4 for 5 performance against Dallas last week and will try to build off of that against the Saints. Young guns Terrelle Pryor and Tyler Wilson didn’t look too bad either, putting up some good numbers in the stat sheet.
Flynn did get rocked pretty good in the pocket, causing the ball to go free and was picked up by Dallas. They will want to avoid hits like those in the preseason if they can.
Expect much of the same this week for the Saints and Raiders. Flynn might be in for a bti longer and throw the ball around some more to test out that Saints secondary.
