Two young quarterbacks will be at the center of attention in this Week 1 contest. We’ve known for a while that Andrew Luck will be leading the Colts. The rookie in 2012 was sensational, leading Indianapolis from two wins in 2011, to a playoff team a year later.
This is something along the lines of what Terrelle Pryor hopes to do with Oakland. Pryor’s journey to a starter in the NFL has been quite a bit different than Luck’s. Pryor was not a No.1 pick, he wasn’t even a selection in the regular draft. Pryor was picked up in the supplemental NFL draft by Oakland, and ever since has been on a grind to reclaim the success he enjoyed in Ohio State during his time there.
That opportunity is now, as Pryor beat out Matt Flynn for the starting position. But by no means does this make Pryor the starter for the season. Flynn is right on his heels, and the pressure to perform starts immediately against Indianapolis.
Lucas Oil Stadium is not an easy place to play either, especially with the fact that Colts’ fans energy is renewed with the Luck under center, as faith has been restored. Though for Indianapolis the campaign continues towards and AFC South title.
This game will be interesting to see unfold and the progressions that Pryor makes during his time on the field. There will be a heavy burden on the Oakland offensive line to help out their young quarterback.
