There is no love lost between these two teams. The Cowboys are the home team in this game but it’s been the Giants who have dominated them in their own house each of the last four seasons. In fact, New York is 4-0 against Dallas in their new stadium.
To stretch that to 5-0 though, New York will need to establish a run game that might be difficult to do. We know that Eli Manning can sling the rock, but will David Wilson be able to shoulder the burden against a good Dallas run defense. This is added to the fact that backup running back Andre Brown broke his leg in the preseason and won’t be back until around Week 8. Wilson didn’t see much playing time last season behind Ahmad Bradshaw, but that role is about to get much bigger.
Dallas quarterback Tony Romo knows that this is a big season for him personally. And if he doesn’t, he should. The Cowboys haven’t been in the playoffs in four years, and that is a lifetime by their fans’ standards. Romo threw for 4,900 yards last season, but it was all for not with Dallas losing in Week 17 to Washington to miss the postseason.
The Cowboys need to get off to a good start and a win over the Giants in Week 1 would be the way to do that.
Plenty will be paying attention to this Sunday night matchup, where the Cowboys are the favorites at home to get it done.
