Looking at the start of the schedule this didn’t look like it would be a ranked matchup beginning the season. Certainly the Seminoles were expected to be up where they are at No.8 in the country, but it’s been Maryland who has been the surprise.
The Terrapins bring an unblemished 4-0 record into Tallahassee on Saturday, getting a week off this past Saturday so they will be fully rested. Maryland won their first three games as expected, but it was the impressive 37-0 shutout win over West Virginia that turned some heads. The Terrapins squeak into the top-25 at No.25 this week, but will get a chance to really jump up with a road win over Florida State.
The Seminoles knocked off Boston College 48-34, but they have a very slow start and trailed for most of the first half.
Florida State has started slow in three of their first four games, and with the competition getting better that room for error is getting smaller. Freshman quarterback Jameis Winston continues to impress, but the defense giving up 34 points to a bad Boston College team is concerning.
The Seminoles rank 4th in the country on offensive scoring putting up more than 51 points per game. The Terrapins rank 3rd in the country in scoring defense, giving up just 10 points per game. Something’s got to give in this one, and it will be interesting to see which team blinks first on the the things they do well.
