Week 14 in the NFL features an intense matchup between two offensive powerhouses, both of which are sitting on the cusp of the playoffs at 7-5. The Detroit Lions head to Philadelphia to try and take down the Eagles in what could be a battle for one of the NFC playoff spots. And at this point in the season, the games don’t get much better than this.
Just look at the stats. Detroit boasts the best receiver in the game in Calvin Johnson, and Philly’s pass defense on the year is 32nd overall, dead last in the league with almost 300 yards against per game. On the other hand, Eagles’ backup-QB-turned-star Nick Foles has been destroying the competition for 13 touchdowns over his last four starts. And how have the Lions fared against the passing game this year? They’re not as bad as the Eagles, but not much better either at 26th overall with 262 yards against per game.
After winning all three of their games in November, the Eagles kept the streak alive and won in week 13, and hope to have a much better December than 2012. A year ago, the Eagles, who finished the season 4-12, lost 4 of 5 in December and that essentially doomed their season. In a similar fashion, the Lions also finished last year 4-12 and also had a brutal December losing all 5 games during the month.
Something has to happen. Both teams are winning and scoring touchdowns like their lives depended on it and only one of them will leave Lincoln Financial Field with the victory on Sunday afternoon.
If you’re looking for a high-scoring and intense game, it’s safe to assume the Detroit Lions- Philadelphia Eagles matchup is your bet this coming Sunday. There is going to be a ton of scoring, and big time plays to Detroit’s Calvin Johnson and Philly’s LeSean McCoy.
